3D CT Guided Root Canal Treatment

Advanced 3D imaging helps Doctor Bernstein identify hidden anatomy, missed tissue, and infections that may not appear clearly on traditional flat dental X-rays.

Why 3D CT Imaging Matters

No two teeth are exactly alike. The same tooth in one person may have one root, while another person may have three. 3D CT imaging provides a clearer map of the tooth and surrounding bone.

This technology helps locate infected tissue, evaluate healing, and identify hidden problems that may not cause pain.

3D CT Guided Root Canal Treatment

Video description

This video shows a 3D CT scan of the teeth and surrounding jaw, moving through multiple cross-sectional views. These views allow the doctor to examine tooth anatomy, surrounding bone, and areas that may not be clearly visible on traditional dental X-rays.

3D CT Dental Images

These examples show how 3D CT imaging can reveal missed tissue, hidden anatomy, bone damage, and infection that may not appear on traditional flat X-rays.

Missed Tissue Found During Retreatment

Before Treatment
3D CT scan showing missed tissue before treatment
The arrow shows missed tissue. The white areas are where they did find tissue and place a root canal filling.
After Treatment
3D CT image after missed tissue was found and treated
This is after we found the tissue—now you see the missed area with a filling that shows up white.

Before and After Root Canal Retreatment

Before Treatment
3D CT scan before retreatment
This is the same patient with the missed tissue before we redid the root canal.
After Treatment
3D CT scan after retreatment with completed root canal
This is after we found the tissue the previous dentist missed—you can see two root canal fillings.

Hidden Infection Identified with 3D CT Imaging

3D CT scan showing hidden infection at the root tip

This is the same patient—the arrow points to an opening at the end of the root where bacteria that are living on the missed tissue are coming out and killing the bone. The black areas are dead bone and pus.

The black area on the tooth next door tells us the patient has another infected tooth. This black bone may not be seen on an old-school flat X-ray.
